SOLO ONE

SOLO ONE is a co-production between Âmok/Âmok, CrazyLittleThing (Oscar Ramos), and Atelier 03 (Matti Degueldre).

The piece “Solo One” by Oscar Ramos (previously in Batsheva Dance Company, Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet and guest artist at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen. Currently performing and associate choreographer for Eastman Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui) connects forms of movement through visual arts, dance and music. The piece is a composition of the creator’s internal world, merging his fantasy with reality, as he explores the duality of strength and fragility, their emergence from one another, and what they both do to our mind and body, as well as our social environment. Oscar wrote and created Solo One as a personal catharsis – a way to unleash his creativity, and to express the sometimes Sisyphean task of battling our inner demons, learning and growing, only to find ourselves confronted by those same demons again. However, Oscar offers his audience a light at the end of the tunnel in the form of a question: What is holding you back?

Solo One is at once very personal, bringing Oscar’s personal experiences front and center, while the themes it raises about fragility, strength, and finding a way forward are relevant on a societal, indeed global, scale to the times we are living through today.
